This one day course is an introduction to powerboating. It includes boating techniques for launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer, everyday boat handling and the use of safety Equipment.
RYA Powerboat Level 2 :
This two day course is designed for beginners and existing boat users, the RYA Powerboat 2 qualification is recognised the world over and, and in many countries, is all that is required to allow certificate holders to hire powerboats up to 10m. See International Certificate of Competence (ICC). It is also recognised by most insurance companies, leading to lower premiums, and for some is an absolute requirement to gain insurance cover.
The course is designed so students spend more than 70% of their time afloat. In this course, the emphasis is very much on safe boat handling in harbours and out to sea. Time is spent learning the art of mooring, turning in confined spaces, recovering a man overboard and, of course, how to get a boat going fast on the plane and keeping it there comfortably. We also include a practical section on navigation at sea
The theory section, covering subjects such the rules of the road, how to plan a journey safely, weather and tides, is covered in a single 2.5 hour session with all the rest of the time dedicated to being afloat.
If you do the course, there are no examination. Progress is determined by continuous assessment and it is our job, as instructors, to identify and correct any weakneeses. If you fail, we fail.
If you are already an experienced and competent poweboat skipper, you can also choose to do only an assessment. But you may want to do some training beforehand. Contact us directly to discuss it (Contact the Chief Instructor, Fabrice by phone 00351 932118260 or by email Fabrice@sea-wings.org).
The boats we use are designed to give you the very best learning experience and are fitted with all the equipement and electronics needed to ensure you get a good grounding in boat handling and navigation.
After the course
You will be able to handle a powerboat safely and with confidence in most everyday situations.
